About Bexhill Choral Society

More than 70 years after its foundation the choir is still going strong!  We have around 60 members and perform 3 concerts each year under the baton of our Music Director, well-known local conductor, musician and composer Kenneth Roberts.  The choir performs a wide range of choral works - from baroque to the Beatles! -  including pieces composed by our Music Director.  In February 2024 the choir premiered his cantata 'Iseult', which can be heard on his YouTube channel 'Kenneth Roberts composer'.

Kenneth Roberts also performs an annual Lecture Recital, as part of the Bexhill Festival of Music, on subjects ranging from Mozart to ‘Jelly Roll’ Morton and ‘Piano at the Movies’.  These are both informative and very entertaining, and usually sold out.

We have held a couple of open 'Singing Morning' workshops for local singers, who may have had no previous experience of 'classical' choral singing but wanted to give it a try.  These were enthusiastically received.

We also hold social events including a popular Quiz/Ploughman's Supper evening, Christmas Lunch at a local restaurant, socials and drop-in coffee mornings.

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, from 6.50-9 p.m., mostly at Little Common Community Centre, Shepherd’s Close, Little Common, Bexhill, TN39 4SQ but on the 4th Wednesday of each month at St Barnabas Church, Sea Road, Bexhill, TN40 1JG. Our accompanist is well-known local organist and musician Nigel Howard, and we also have occasional input from local singer and vocal coach Susannah Appleyard.

We hold concerts at various venues in Bexhill including on occasion the De La Warr Pavilion.  You can hear excerpts from previous concerts on Bexhill Choral Society's YouTube channel: Mozart's Ave Verum or a sparkling selection of 6 items from a past Christmas Carols and Music concert.
