Spring Concert 7.30 Saturday May 17th 2025 at St Peter's Church - Mozart Requiem & Salieri Mass in D |

Tickets are now on sale for our May concert.
This exciting concert features Mozart’s wonderful and well-known Requiem, left unfinished at his untimely death aged 35 and completed by his student Süssmayr. The Requiem is often considered one of Mozart’s greatest works, but is surrounded by mystery and myth, not least the idea (most recently in the play and film Amadeus), that his alleged rival Antonio Salieri was a mediocre composer jealous of Mozart’s genius, who was directly or indirectly responsible for his death. There is no evidence for this, and in this concert we present our audience with an unusual chance to judge Salieri’s abilities for themselves, with a rare performance of his Mass in D. This has been described as a work of impressive beauty and optimism, and has a beautiful melodic quality as well as moments of great drama and joy – there is nothing mediocre about this music!
Bexhill Choral Society is joined by soloists soprano Kristy Swift, mezzo Louisa Hunter-Bradley, tenor Kristian Thorkildsen and bass Peter Grevatt, with accompaniment from the Sussex Concert Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Roberts.
Tickets are £15 in advance or £17 on the door, and £12 for Friends of BCS. Now available from choir members, from Second Spin on Sackville Rd Bexhill (cash only) or online from ticketsource.co.uk/bcs or phone the Ticketsource box office on 0333 666 3366.
Advance booking is recommended!
Programme included, refreshments available.

Together with some of Mozart’s own great pieces, Kenneth Roberts will talk about and play music which inspired Mozart, and music by other great composers he in turn inspired.

A Night at the Bexhill Proms with the Bexhill Festival Choir and Sussex Concert Orchestra - Bexhill Festival of Music
Although this is not a Bexhill Choral Society event, we're including it in our newsletter since our Director of Music Kenneth Roberts will be conductiing the concert, and a number of our members are taking part as members of the Bexhill Festival Choir.
This year the concert opens rather than closes the Bexhill Festival of Music, at 7.30 on Sunday 18th May 2025, at the De La Warr Pavilion. Tickets are available from the DLWP Boxx Office.
The first part of this perennially popular concert features varied music with the theme of the dance, while after the interval, it’s time to sing along to all the prom favourites including I Vow to Thee My Country, Fantasia on Sea Songs, Jerusalem and Auld Lang Syne.
