Autumn Concert - 7.30 Saturday 11th October 2025, at St Peter's Church, Bexhill |

Our beautiful Autumn Concert opens with Bach's Cantata 196, a short and joyful piece celebrating the blessings of God, which is thought to have been written for a wedding. Alessandro Scarlatti's rarely performed Dixit Dominus is a setting of Psalm 110 (109) which showcases his gift for harmony and vivid word-painting, with moments of drama and emotional intensity. Schubert's Mass in G , one of his earliest and most beloved sacred works, is a compact and lyrical setting of the Latin Mass, with beautiful melodies enriched by profound harmonies, and an emotional expressiveness which gives it a very direct appeal in both church and concert hall.
The Sussex Concert Orchestra accompanies throughout and will also play Tchaikovsky's lyrical and poignant Andante Cantabile, a famous piece based on an Ukrainian folk song.
Bexhill Choral Society is also joined by soloists Caroline Charnock, Judith Buckle, Gary Marriott and Peter Grevatt and organist Nigel Howard, and the concert is conducted by Kenneth Roberts.
Tickets are £15 in advance or £17 on the door and £12 for Friends of BCS. Now available from choir members, from Second Spin in Sackville Road, Bexhill (cash only), or online from ticketsource.co.uk/bcs or 0333 666 3366.
The programme is included and refreshments (wine or juice) are available.

We are always happy to welcome new members to our friendly non-audition choir. Perhaps you or someone you know might be interested? There is increasing evidence that singing in a choir is not only very enjoyable, but is also good for your physical and emotional health, so why not give it a try?
Potential members are invited to attend a few rehearsals free of charge to try it out, and after our October concert (starting 15th October) would be a good time to start. We welcome people with a range of musical knowledge and experience, although some ability to follow written music is advisable. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6.45 to 8.45, at Little Common Community Centre, Shepherds Close, Little Common, Bexhill TN39 4SQ.
As well as putting on three concerts a year with a repertoire ranging from baroque to the Beatles, we hold several other events including our Music Director's annual recital, a Quiz and Ploughman's evening, Christmas lunch and summer social, and people generally find us a friendly lot!
For more information about our concerts and other events or about joining the choir, visit our website www.bexhillchoral.org.uk or our Facebook page, or email info@bexhillchoral.org.uk. You can even hear us on YouTube!
